Weeeeeeeee Haaaaaahh! Congratulations to all the Democrats who won in the 2026 midterm election! Restores faith in my fellow American. I haven’t felt this elated and politically surprised since Bill Clinton won the presidency, after 12 long years of Republican rule and Reagan worship. I remember thinking that November election night in 1992 when Clinton won: A lotta people must’ve been as bad off as me.
This year’s midterm win was BIG for many reasons: economy, war, in-our-face personal money making by the president and his family (in the billions of dollars), forever tax breaks for the super rich, and ICE murders of American citizens while carting off allegedly undocumented workers in this country and intentionally dumping them into unknown hellholes of the world without an immigration hearing, attorney representation and judge review and verdict. Dare I add another reason for the political upset: federally removing laws for abortion rights?
As the Republicans have had their way across much of the land for decades now, this Blue wave is theorized as a generational win. Young people voted out as much of the current regime as possible. Would’ve included Trump, too, if he were on the ballot. Young people who are in their early working years realize things can’t continue. They’ve clearly indicated they DO NOT WANT TO BE REPUBLICAN, well, anymore. So, beware, Reds.
For the newly elected Democrats heading to the U.S. House and Senate, I offer the most pressing issues, in order of importance to me, for debate and fixing:
Here’s what to do
END THE WAR
First day in office, end the war in Iran. Only Congress can declare war. Use your power in numbers now, supported by tens of millions of Americans, to stop Trump’s illegal war. Otherwise … something really bad’s bound to happen. Don’t you think?
AI RESTRICTIONS
The tech biz claims ‘helplessness’ in controlling their intentionally life-altering Artificial Intelligence creation which is already creeping through our digital and personal lives like an invisible sinister snake. Talk with experts to devise guard rails against mass unemployment, bank fraud, utility and airline collapse, and military catastrophes like an unauthorized nuclear launch. Â
OPEN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ
Negotiate with Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to permanently ensure safe and secure passage through this formerly unknown shipping waterway so vitally important to the entire world. Getting stuff from there to here likely will reduce a lot of prices in stores. That’s what they tell us.
REDUCE GAS PRICES
This could automatically occur with securing passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, check all the taxes per gallon of gas to see if any could be cut or reduced even if temporary. People like that, just providing relief during highly stressful economic times. This issue is probably why a lot of you got elected this time around.
JOB CORPS 201
Expand this fine federal work-study program, providing young adults with career training or a college education, to help grads with jobs so they can pay back their loans in full or a portion. Graduates then would be working with a purpose plus gaining skills for pursuing other jobs. Surely business and industry would join this worthwhile effort by providing sponsorships for young adults who need to pay back their college loans.
$40 TRILLION DEFICIT
Every one of us must talk about this incomprehensible yet very real financial problem until a viable solution or solutions are devised. Everything on the table, guys, including taxes. Perhaps doing away with permanent tax breaks for the rich would be a start, one that might even gain you respect from the American people. I believe your current rating of trust is 13 percent. Allowing this deficit to snowball into double-digit trillions is one of many reasons the public distrusts Congress.
MELT THE ICE
Let’s face it, rounding up Spanish-speaking people living and working in America had a lot to do with this election outcome. Democrats are for working immigrant rights. We’re for a path to citizenship. We’re against splitting up families, like nursing mothers from their newborn babies. Despicable. Return and prosecute, or set free ALL former U.S. workers imprisoned for life in unknown hell holes around the world. We’re paying nations to jail undocumented immigrants indefinitely. That is not right. We’re already gonna have to pay each one ICE laid a hand on some kind of six-figure settlement for ruining their lives, health and families. Our ‘nation of immigrants’ did not need to brutally intimidate undocumented workers living in this country like the Germans stripped the Jews of human rights. We should have built more centers to house undocumented workers, if we’re sooooo very concerned about this issue.
GUN CONTROL
NOW. If nothing else, let’s turn back the right for any and all citizens to own military-style assault rifles. We never had a daily problem with mass shootings when these types of spit-fire rifles were banned from the public. In negotiating this one measure of gun control, perhaps use a temporary ban on the very weapons popularly used by kids shooting up their schools. Let’s make it a year or so and just see how this one small segment of our national mass shooting sprees changes: numbers of shootings reduced, increased or remain the same.
CALL OUT CORRUPTION
Federal laws already prohibit any elected official, like our U.S. president, from financial gain while in office. Do not play along with this blatant misuse of a duly elected federal office. It is fifty shades of in-our-face-with-middle-finger-flying wrongdoing. Period.
ELECTORAL COLLEGE
Can we not write this out of our constitution? It’s completely unnecessary in this age of computer voting and super-sonic vote tallies. Maybe we’re stuck with this from the original days of our nation’s founding, when huge territories wanted some sort of equality if joining the U.S. Maybe there’s another way to address the ‘balancing act’ that was supposed to ensure small states as equal to large states. Sigh.
HAND SWIPE
There. All this work should keep our elected officials busy and on the right track—doing right by We the People.
Now for the one Big Don’t:
IMPEACHMENT
God, we cannot keep impeaching Donald J. Trump, this for a third time—and suffer yet again the political embarrassment when he gets off. We don’t need to waste tax money and years on this convicted criminal president. Just let him finish his damn term. We all know he’s a crook, a kook, a phony, all brass and crass and no class. Let’s not be vindictive. Evidently, Trump’s comeuppance will be in the hereafter.
